Assassins Creed 2 review

I wouldn’t classify myself as a big gamer but I do like to play every now and then.  I got my hands on Assassins Creed 2 a while back and enjoyed it so much I decided to write a review which I’m just posting.  A little outdated but here you go.

Assassins Creed 2 is the follow up to the highly acclaimed but flawed 2007 hit.  The sequel follows Ezio through Renaissance Italy in one of the most rich and vibrant gaming environments to date.  The Renaissance details from Florentine churches to Venetian canals are exquisitely portrayed and beautifully rendered.

The plot is a tale of revenge and conspiracy, in which we follow Ezio on his quest to become a master assassin while unraveling the mystery surrounding the death of his father and his involvement with the Assassins.  As in the original game, the kidnapped bartender Desmond inhabits Ezio in the 15th century while strapped to a device in the future, his genealogy putting him in the middle of a century’s old battle between the Assassins and the Templars.

The game play is fluid and learning to free-run across the rooftops of Florence is a joy as you watch Ezio twirl and jump with a ballerina’s grace.   Players learn to master new fighting skills as they progress through the game making Ezios’ battles fierce and graceful, if the player has full command of his skills.

The amount of side quests does slow the pace of play and while fun, many are superfluous and do not add to the gaming experience.

This is a game that is hard to fault and an improvement on the original while at the same time seamlessly continuing the story of the first.  Assassins Creed 2 is a masterpiece so do yourself a favour and buy it.
